Postdoctoral Position in Bat Population Monitoring

The Department of Ecoscience at Aarhus University, Denmark, invites applications for a 2-year postdoctoral position focused on the monitoring and quantification of bat populations. This research project will contribute to next-generation wildlife monitoring approaches by advancing bat population monitoring through the optimization of camera-based systems and AI-based workflows.
The position is based in Aarhus, Denmark, at the Section for Wildlife Ecology. Experience with computational image analysis or wildlife ecology is advantageous. The research will focus on a Danish hibernaculum. The expected starting date is June 2026, with the exact date to be agreed upon by the postdoctoral researcher and the Department. Proficiency in Danish and/or German is considered a bonus.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and optimizing camera-based methods for bat species identification and population monitoring
- Analyzing large datasets using programming and computational tools
- Contributing to the automation of long-term wildlife population trend analyses
- Designing and piloting an outreach program for Danish schools focused on bat monitoring and conservation
- Organizing interdisciplinary workshops to connect departmental expertise with the broader research community
