PhD Research Fellow in Climate Data Analysis and Machine Learning Emulation of Hydrological Models

There is a vacancy for a PhD position at the Geophysical Institute, University of Bergen, focusing on climate data analysis and machine learning emulation of hydrology. The position is part of the DYNAMIC-AI project, funded by the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research, which integrates physical modelling, dynamical understanding, machine learning, and hydrological modelling into a unified framework for analysing unprecedented and compound extremes such as wildfires, drought, heatwaves, strong wind, extreme precipitation, and flooding. The successful candidate will analyze extreme precipitation events across Europe in new generation CMIP6 CORDEX climate downscaling ensembles and develop a machine learning-based hydrological model to emulate the hydrological response to extreme precipitation, integrating this model into the full DYNAMIC-AI framework.

This position is located at the Geophysical Institute, University of Bergen, Norway.
