Job opening

Postdoctoral Researcher, Machine Learning & Cheminformatics

Application deadline
Sun 8 November 2026

The Postdoctoral Researcher will develop machine learning methodologies to predict biopolymer properties from molecular representations, physics-based simulations, and experiments. The resulting methods will serve as classical baselines for comparison with emerging quantum computing approaches. The role involves collaboration with experts in quantum computing, genomics, synthetic biology, and ethics, with the goal of advancing the bioeconomy through innovative biomaterials.

The position is based in Espoo, Finland, at VTT, a leading applied research organisation in Europe. The candidate will join an interdisciplinary team working on the Q-GEN project, which explores quantum computing applications for future genomes and biomaterials.

Key qualifications:

  • A doctoral degree in a relevant field such as computer science, data science, machine learning, chemical or material informatics, or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong practical experience in data-driven modelling and at least one of the following: molecular representations, quantitative structure-activity relationships, or chemical or material informatics.
  • Ability to work with molecular representations and connect molecular structure to measured or simulated material properties.
  • Strong programming skills in Python or a comparable scientific programming language, with experience in developing documented and reproducible computational workflows.
  • A strong scientific track record relevant to the position and the ability to produce high-quality scientific outputs.

Deadline: November 8th, 2026
