Postdoc Deep Learning for Image-Based Biodiversity Surveys

This position offers a central role in the NextBON project, a large Horizon Europe initiative coordinated by the University of Copenhagen involving over 20 leading institutions across Europe. The project aims to transform how biodiversity is monitored in Europe. The selected candidate will develop new methods in deep learning and computer vision to convert large photo and video datasets, alongside data from other sensors, into Essential Biodiversity Variables (EBVs).

The position is affiliated with the National Forest Inventory Department within the Division of Forest and Forest Resources and is located at NIBIO’s headquarters in Ås, 30 km south of Oslo.

Key Qualifications:

  • Develop new methods in deep learning and computer vision for image-based biodiversity surveys.
  • Contribute to groundbreaking research in deep learning for ground-based image analysis of biodiversity.
  • Collaborate closely with leading institutions in ecology and artificial intelligence, including undertaking a research stay at the EcoVision Lab.
  • Hold a doctoral degree and must not have previously been employed as a postdoctoral researcher at NIBIO.
